Groodle Pros and Cons – Things you must know

Groodles are a Golden Retriever and a Poodle cross and are also known as Goldendoodle, Golden Poo, and Curly Retriever. They are among the most demanding designer dog breeds in Australia, the USA, and Canada.

They were first bred by Monica Dickens in 1969 as she loved both the breeds; Golden Retriever and Poodle, and wanted to have a dog with the traits of both breeds. So, the Groodles are intelligent, friendly, and hypoallergenic.

Like all the other breeds, Groodles do also have Pros and Cons which should be considered before getting a Groodle Puppy. Also, you must get a puppy from a reputable Groodle breeder in order to avoid any health-related issues, as well as, behaviour and temperament problems in the future. You may also get a puppy from shelters or rescue groups, you just need to do a little research on the internet or your local shelters.

Low-shedding coat:

Groodles or Goldendoodles more likely have a low-shedding coat and that is why they are the best choice for owners with dog dander allergies. But remember, they may also have a high-shedding coat if the tendency of the Golden Retriever is greater than Poodle in the puppies.

Social with other animals:

They can easily be kept in a home that already has other pets including cats and other dog breeds. While on regular walks or in the dog park, they express their friendly behavior towards other dogs and are more likely to play with them.

Easy to Train:

Groodles won’t give you a tough time during the training sessions and because of their intelligence inherited from the Poodles, they easily learn whatever you teach them. BTW, it is highly recommended to reward your dogs during the training.

Also, start training them from the day one you get them and it will be a lot easier to train them.

Best Exercise Partner:

Groodles love to do different activities including exercise. So, if you are an exercise geek or play different sports, your fur baby will always be there to accompany you.

The Best Couch Dog:

Want to spend a rainy day at home sitting on a couch in front of your television? Do not worry at all, Groodle has just got your back. In your dog’s presence, you won’t be needing anyone else on your couch.

Aggressive behaviour:

Although they are very jolly and entertaining, they may show destructive behaviour and aggression if left alone for a long time which may lead to destructive chewing or excessive barking.

Daily exercise needed:

Groodles need at least 30 minutes to 1 hour of exercise on a daily basis in order to burn their excess energy or they may develop destructive behaviour; therefore, they are not suitable for owners with a busy routine.

Some of them not suitable for small apartments:

Groodle comes in a variety of sizes from small to large, and the large-sized Groodles may not be adjusted in small apartments, so if you live in a small apartment, consider getting a small-sized Groodle- Mini Groodle.

Regular grooming needed:

They are considered hypoallergenic dogs and shed very little as compared to other dog breeds; therefore, they need grooming on a weekly basis or they may develop health-related issues including tangling and matting.

Not an ideal Guard Dog:

Groodles are adorable, cute, entertaining, and friendly, but unfortunately, they aren’t suitable as a guard.

Final words:

So, these were the Pros and Cons of Groodles and we are sure that you’ll now have a clear idea about their positives and negatives.

If you have planned to get a Groodle, go for a reputable breeder and make sure your pup has had all the necessary vaccinations. Looking for a reliable Groodle breeder? Check Groodle breeders.
